Teton Mentor Project is a vital program in our community that need not only to continue but to expand to high school aged students. To accomplish this, community support is necessary.
— Martha Doyle, Student Assistance Coordinator Jackson Hole High School
In February the mentees and mentors learned some new dance moves at the group activity. A hip hop dance class taught by Dancers’ Workshop was a great way to get some exercise inside during winter. The highlight was when the everyone broke into smaller groups and added their own moves onto the dance routine. Then each group performed their dance for the bigger group. There are some dance stars in this group! January, 2012
In December the mentees and mentors had an extra special holiday group activity at 43 North. It was a typical chilly December afternoon in Jackson, but that did not deter people from the outside team building games. Next the group moved inside for snacks and a goal setting activity. Each person created a tree with their goals for the upcoming year. The roots were the “how” part for achieving the goals. 2011 was a great year for the Teton mentor Project and we are looking forward to more fun and new mentor relationships in 2012!
The October 2011 group activity was a tour to the Teton County Search and Rescue building. The mentors and mentees got to sit in the helicopter, turn on sirens in the truck, rescue Heavy Harry and rescue each other with throw bags. A GIANT thank you to Teton County Search and Rescue for this super fun and interactive group activity.
The September group activity was participating in the challenge ropes course. This is an experience where participants climb up ladders, walk across raised logs and tight rope walk. It was a powerful bonding experience for the mentees and mentors. We are very sad that it will be torn down soon, but thankful that these kids got to experience it one last time. September 2011
Rafting down the Snake River was a fun way to enjoy one of the last days of summer vacation. A big thanks to Dave Hansen White Water for making this group activity possible. August 2011
A hot July afternoon is perfect for a round of mini-golf at Snow King! July 2011
In July the Teton Mentor Project headed to the trails to explore nature. We used the Nature Packs to explore the plants, creek and practice with maps. July 2011
Mentors, mentees and families came to the End of School Year Party in May 2011. The fun took place at the Teton Science Schools campus. There were basketball games, croquet matches and soccer in the sun. The Teton Science School staff cooked up a tasty BBQ that everyone enjoyed while watching a slideshow of photos from the year and a presentation from the mentor coordinators. It was a fun and heartwarming way to end the school year and also get excited for summer.
The April Group activity was a visit to the Teton Raptor Center. We toured the raptor facility, saw various birds and played raptor trivia. April 2011
With the help of Betty Rock restaurant, the Teton Mentor Project made homemade pizzas! Each one was unique and tasty. February 2011.
On a cold winter evening, the mentor and mentees went to River Rock Assisted Living to visit the seniors. The mentees interviewed them about Jackson Hole in the “good old days.”
A fun day learning African dance.
