"Every one of us has a story to share. Every one of us looks back on a coach or a teacher or some person who set us straight and steered us right." -Denzel Washington
The Teton Mentor Project is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of Jackson youth through the guidance and inspiration of mentor relationships. We are a school-based program that began in January 2008 with a federally-funded grant, evolving from the community-based mentor program, WeeCare Mentoring. We connect adult volunteers with local students and support the relationship for the duration of the match.
Mentors meet with a young person four hours a month for a minimum of one year. After three initial meetings at school, mentor matches can participate in off campus activities with parent permission. While we are a one-on-one mentoring program, we also sponsor group events, including cultural and community service opportunites to celebrate the new and established friendships! Through involvement in the program and connecting to other local organizations, our young people can become active and engaged members of the community.
Are on the brink of success and would thrive if their potential was tapped! They are 2nd through 8th graders who have been nominated by their teacher, school counselor or parent to join the program. All are kids who could use additional support and friendship!
